In our ability to create so magnificently, tattooing has become another art permanently ingrained in human history. Needles and ink may be a bit too extreme for some, but the art has become an expression and for most people, permanently marking their skin in beautiful decor often carries symbolic meaning. Although we may not be aware, all of us tattoo ourselves through patterning within our minds the labels we feel we should bare as a way to identify who we are. We may glance in the mirror and think "beautiful" or "painful". Perhaps just words, but labels none the less, of the way we see ourselves. This applies to any term one uses to describe or identify oneself.
Over time, use of a particular word or sets of words, become permanently fixed in the mind. Thinking the same thing over and over and over and over and over... Well, you get the message. Sooner or later, the thought becomes an intricate and fixed pattern in the brain; almost like tattooing the mind. This is wonderful news for those who practice rosy thinking about themselves or their lives, but for most people, the entire concept of self love or self appreciation has been presented as almost blasphemous. The purposeful act of feeling good or singing one's own praises is considered vain; a deadly sin.
How on Earth is anyone supposed to contribute positively to the world, if as individuals, each of us are not 100% behind ourselves? Is it even remotely possible for anyone to spread hope, love or purpose when they themselves have branded themselves hopeless, loveless and purposeless?
Negative mind labelling or tattooing can only beckon dire straights, because from darkness comes more darkness. Over time, the internalised name calling and fervent judgement we sometimes subject ourselves to becomes permanent and when those words become falsely believed "truths", automatically they become reality. It is humanly impossible to live a wonderfully blessed life if you have tattooed in your mind that you are not worthy of such a life. Consciously, sub-consciously and unconsciously, each of us can only ever bring to ourselves what we believe to be truest about ourselves... Until we decide differently.
Thankfully, mind ink doesn't require laser surgery! As with a badly done tattoo, all that need happen is to select a better design and have it redone. Become aware of the badly done tattoos (words and sentiments) in your mind and redo them until you are elated with the new design. The language we use when we talk and think about ourselves, others and life, is way more than just language. Language is a catalogue of tattoo designs that become inked in our minds and those designs influence the way we feel, perceive and ultimately, the way we live.
By using the human ability to learn to cultivate the thoughts we allow to canvas our minds, we are able to understand that with every day dawns the ability to re-think and re-ink!
